The Rivetti family purchased this historic, high-end sparkling wine producer in June of 2011. The winery is located just 15 minutes east of our cellar in Castagnole Lanze.
A visit to the cellars of Contratto is a one-of-a-kind experience. The historical cellars represent a veritable treasure for the Estate and are among the finest of their kind. The Contratto winery welcomes its guests in an elegant building constructed in the Italian liberty style, complete with impressive wrought iron gates and an enchanting cobblestoned courtyard. A gallery holds documents and photos recording the history of the company and a fascinating collection of ancient instruments and machines once used for vinification is compiled in the "sala dei sacchi". The 32 meter-deep cellars, where bottles of wine produced with the Chardonnay and Pino Nero grapes have been stored for nearly 150 years, are the highlight of the visit along with a tasting of the exciting high-end wines and spirits produced in the cellar today.
The uniqueness of this cellar is the reason for the recently announced UNESCO World Heritage status.
Contratto is pleased to receive visitors from Monday to Sunday, preferrably by appointment. The maximum group size that can be accommodated is 30 people per visit. Please allow a minimum of 90 minutes for the tour and the tasting.
The cost for the visit and tasting is 25,00 Euro per person
Piedmont offers a great variety of excellent food and lodging. From simple Trattorias to numerous Michelin Star restaurants, and from simple Agriturismos to 5-star luxury hotels, there is something for everyone. You will find plentiful options from which to choose and many charming places to discover.
To give you a hand, we have selected some our favorite places for dining and sleeping.
Though perhaps less known than the classic tourist areas in Tuscany, the hills southeast of Pisa are equally as beautiful as their more famous counterparts. Less tourism translates into a more authentic lifestyle and natural surroundings that have remained largely untouched. Our Casanova is a tiny little Etruscan village outside the town of Terricciola. The area is rich in traditional Trattorias offering exceptional local dishes.
The area also offers some nice hotels and B&Bs that we will be happy to recommend.
